Knife in the Water
I don’t tend to find current affairs very uplifting but I did find myself taking in that a super yacht has gone down off the coast of Sicily and that two bodies have been recovered. There followed a bland description of a rescue operation that couldn’t really have been less evocative (Radio 2 – I only do it for Vern). The divers get ten minutes when they go down to search for technical reasons – thus two of the victims are still down in Davy Jone’s locker. A couple of others are unaccounted for so that was six peoples’ fandango on fantasy island well and truly scuppered.
As someone I know apparently holidays in Sicily I immediately thought – was it him and his coterie? I suspect that he does not have a super yacht but that may just be me being narrow-minded. I hope he is alright all the same.
Another pal tried to call yesterday – I was on the road coming back from knitting group (this is East Anglia, right?!) so I missed him and the attempt to connect became phone ping-pong straight away.
I am something of a sailor so any tale that mentions the briny is right up my boulevard. I immediately was visualising the moon reflected on the water, the majestic hull of the vessel, the dashing captain (preferably) and obviously dinner by candle light under the stars. It really is tragic that more money than sense is clearly not too much of a cliche to write here – what really happened? Stormy weather? A good sea-farer can handle it…
I’ll have to find out…will report back…!!!
